Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports After ruling college basketball for 4 years, Cameron Brink enters the professional court in an emphatic fashion. The 2× Pac-12 Player of the Year proved why she is the second overall WNBA draft pick by delivering an impactful debut against the Storm. Now that she is going to travel to Phoenix to face off against the legend Diana Taurasi, she reflected on her debut game and what she was looking forward to in the next. Talking about her experience so far, Brink said, “It’s funny. Dearica said it before but she has been instilling a lot of confidence in me. Before the Edmonton game, I remember going up to her, when we were stretching, and just telling her I was like I’m worried about starting. I’m like ‘I feel ready for it, but it’s just a lot. And I know the privilege and the honor to play in the W. Just want to uphold that’.” ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad However, the former Cardinal continued with, “But I felt really good out there. I feel like I just said this and I just feel like, not in a bad way, but it’s just so much more fun than college basketball. Just playing with the players of this caliber is just such a blast.” ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad In her opening game in Canada against Seattle Storm, Cameron Brink surely brought out the best of herself. Grabbing 11 points and 3 rebounds along with blocking two shots, she showed veteran players like Nneka Ogwumike, Jewel Loyd, and Skylar Diggins-Smith that she has transformed her game only for the better. And looks like she is all prepped up to try and take other popular faces of the W like Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, and Sophie Cunningham as well. The new LA rookie also discussed her game strategy a little before the final preseason game. She said, “For this next game, I kind of hope to do the same thing. Focus on our offense, continue to make changes defensively that Kurt wants me to make, just be more aggressive and just trying to be a sponge.” Phoenix is going to work around their new coach — Nate Tibbetts. However, the Sparks is quite a young team with less experience in the professional league compared to the behemoths of the Mercury. It will be interesting to see how the two face off tonight.
